The 55th Perceptual Frontier Seminar: Vision and Hearing Research

Date and time: Friday, 24 June 2022, 16:00-18:00
Venue: Talks are online. For those attendees who are on the Ohashi campus, after the seminar we will have a glass of beer/wine to discuss research and to celebrate the recent publications of our journal papers.
Language: English
Organizer: Gerard B. REMIJN (Kyushu Univ./ReCAPS)

Program

15:45-16:00 Checking the Zoom sharing function and pre-session mingle

16:00-16:30 Sound-induced ASMR as investigated with pupillometry
Anna TAKEUCHI and Gerard B. REMIJN
Kyushu University

We investigated the effects of sound-induced ASMR experiences on pupil dilation. The results showed that the experience of sound-induced ASMR is reflected in the listener's pupil diameter, which becomes larger when the ASMR magnitude increases.

16:30-16:50 Gaze-based object selection: Dwell time preferences for different object types and age groups
Gerard B. REMIJN* and Yesaya Tommy PAULUS**
*Kyushu University
**Dipa Makassar University, Indonesia

Onscreen gaze-based object selection or activation typically requires a dwell time: a minimum amount of object gaze time necessary for its selection to occur. Here we discuss preliminary data about the differences in preferred dwell time for users under 35 years of age, users of 36-55 years of age, and users of 56-75 years of age, for different object types.

16:50-17:10 Auditory grouping is necessary to understand interrupted mosaic speech stimuli
Kazuo UEDA*, Hiroshige TAKEICHI**, and Kohei WAKAMIYA*
*Kyushu University
**RIKEN

17:10-17:30 The gap transfer illusion can take place even when crossing percept is not dominant
Yoshitaka NAKAJIMA*, Gerard B. REMIJN**, Yuki KAMIMURA**, and Kyoko KANAFUKA**
